Wealth and Power are not spiritually
neutral. How we acquire both, and the use we make of both, are
opportunities for expressing our deepest spirituality and who we truly
are. Wealth and power are blessings that enable us to act to create a
better world and simple wisdom helps us to see our way. "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and
unto God what is God's" declares Jesus. For millennia this has been
taken to suggest that there is nothing less spiritual than the affairs
of the world and nothing more corrupt than the dreary stuff of politics.
Simple wisdom tells us that this is not necessarily so. Simple wisdom
tells us that we cannot, in conscience, abandon the public square to
greed, egoism and self-interest.
Simple wisdom tells us that our endeavor to make the world a better
place is a profound expression of our spiritual core. |
